That's the reality of Grace Mwari, the ‘’Amazing Grace’’ (as her mother calls her) behind Thrillblaze Africa, a company offering motorcycle adventures that redefine exploration in Kenya. We sat down with Grace to chat about her unexpected path from corporate worker to adventure leader, her unwavering love for motorcycles and her commitment to sustainable travel.
Q: Grace, most people wouldn't picture a corporate job leading to motorcycle adventures in Africa. Tell us your story.
A: (Laughs) You're right! I used to be all about network security, working in IT at a bank, then consulting for the UN. But a work trip to India in 2014 changed everything. My friends convinced me to join their motorcycle adventure through the Himalayas – with barely any riding experience! It was exhilarating, terrifying and ultimately life changing.
Q: So, you learned to ride on a whim and rode through the Himalayas? Talk about a baptism by fire!
A: Exactly! It was intense, but the camaraderie, the raw beauty of the mountains – I was hooked. Back in Kenya, the seed was planted. While on that trip I started imagining how it would be to enable travellers to see my country on two wheels. To experience the culture, landscape and wildlife that Kenya has to offer. These thoughts later empowered the birth of Offroad Adventure EA and now Thrillblaze Africa. I knew I wanted to share this incredible experience with others to show them the magic of Kenya on two wheels.
Q: So that's how Offroad Adventure EA was born?
A: Yes, it started with guided tours then we added an offroad motorcycle school. I had met people back then who were interested in sharing the new venture with me and so we founded Offroad Adventure EA. With much training and experience in addition to the Offroad Motorcycle Tours, the Offroad School was born.
Q: What a story! In a nutshell, could you tell us what Thrillblaze Africa does?
A: Thrillblaze Africa is about responsible adventure. We prioritize safety, eco-conscious practices and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests. We offer tours for all skill levels with expert guides who are passionate about Kenya's landscapes and cultures.
Q: Let's talk about that eco-consciousness. Why is it important to Thrillblaze Africa?
A: Kenya's beauty is irreplaceable. We want to ensure minimal environmental impact and support local communities. We choose responsible partners, minimize waste on tours and educate our guests about sustainable travel practices.
Q: You're not just offering motorcycle tours; you're offering a deeper connection to Kenya.
A: Exactly! We combine the thrill of riding in remote places, visits to cultural sites and interactions with local communities. You get the adrenaline rush, the cultural immersion and the chance to be a responsible traveler, all rolled into one.
Q: Grace, your story is truly inspiring. What advice do you have for someone dreaming of an adventure like yours?
A: Don't be afraid to take the leap! Start small, maybe a weekend motorcycle course. Research destinations that resonate with you. But most importantly, prioritize safety and respect the environment. Remember, adventure can be life-changing, but it should also be sustainable.
Thrillblaze Africa isn't just about motorcycle tours; it's about experiencing Kenya in a way that respects its people and its natural wonders. If you're ready for an adventure that goes beyond the ordinary, visit Thrillblaze Africa's website and start planning your escape to freedom on two wheels!
